Connieââ¬â¢s husband, Clifford, an aristocratic industrialist, owns coalmines and a large family estate, is paralyzed from the waist down by a war wound, is confined to a wheelchair, and is estranged from his wife who is slowly drawn into association with the gamekeeper.Their passionate contacts finally developed into genuine love. The major aim of the novel is obviously to arouse people awareness of harmonious true love embodied in androgyny and to establish a healthy relationship between men and women both physicaly and emotionally in a patriarchal society where natural harmony of human nature has been severely destroyed by the industrial civilization and intellect. The reader sees the brutal, bullying relationship between Mellors and his wife Bertha, who punishes him by preventing his pleasure.There is Tommy Dukes, who has no relationship because he cannot find a woman whom he respects intellectually and, at the same time, finds desirable. There is also the perverse, maternal relationship that ultimately develops between Clifford and Mrs. Bolton, his caring nurse, after Connie has left, she simultaneously adores and despises him, while Clifford depends and look down upon her, is the most complex relationship in the novel.
